Angel Tries Non Dairy Almond Milk Reddi Whip

The other day I heard someone mention that they saw a vegan whipped cream in our local grocery store. I live in a small town with just one grocery store, and the idea of them starting to carry more vegetarian and vegan products is awesome. I decided to check it out.

What I found at the grocery store was Non Dairy Almond Milk Reddi Whip. I found out later that Reddi Whip also has one made from coconut milk, but I didn't see that one... so I bought the almond milk one.

Here is what it looks like.

And here are the ingredients and nutritional information! It looks like this stuff is not at all bad for you.

There are instructions on the side saying to shake it at least 8 to 10 times. I did that, and then I squirted some into a spoon. So far, it looked just like regular Reddi Whip.

Finally, I tasted it.

The taste is mildly sweet... not quite as sweet as regular whipped cream. It does have a little bit of an almond milk taste, but it isn't bad. It reminds me a little bit of the taste of some homemade whipped creams I've had. I kind of wish it was a little sweeter, though! I wonder if the coconut kind is any sweeter?

I am not sure if I would enjoy using this for all of my whipped cream needs. I've tried it several times by itself, but it was inconclusive. I've found the taste growing on me, though. I'd kind of like to try it on some pie or something.

If anyone else has tried it, I'd love to hear what you think!

Noodles and Cottage Cheese

You know how everyone has that one snack that their friends think is disgusting? I have lots of those, but here is one of them: Noodles with cottage cheese. I love it so much! I usually eat this whenever I am at my aunt and uncle's house, because they always have ramen and cottage cheese on hand. My uncle thinks it is absolutely disgusting. But you shouldn't knock it until you try it! You just make the ramen noodles like regular noodles... I made them in the microwave today... and then drain the water out. Then add a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese. If you have sour cream on hand, you can add a spoonful of that for added flare. It is so delicious, I could eat a whole vat of it!

What weird snack do you like?

Imperfect Produce Unboxing

Hi everyone! Today I made a video in which I unbox my latest Imperfect Produce delivery.
I learned about Imperfect Produce a few months ago at a vegetarian festival. They collect slightly imperfect or surplus produce from local farms, and then sell them for a lower price. I was excited to find out about this, because I thought it might be a great way for me to start eating more fruits and vegetables. Instead of agonizing in the grocery store about what I can afford, I can get a bunch of fruits and vegetables delivered to my door! So far, it has been working out very well. For example, the spaghetti squash in one of my Imperfect Produce boxes is what inspired me to learn how to make my spaghetti squash recipe!
If this unboxing video makes you want to check out Imperfect Produce for yourself, please use my referral link. If you do, we'll both get $10 off a box of produce!

Hsppy National Gingerbread House Day!

In honor of National Gingerbread House Day, here is a picture of my gingerbread house! I didn't make it from scratch. My aunt and I bought a kit at Costco. Unlike some of the kits we've had in the past where we had to try to construct the roof and walls, this one came with the basic foundation in place. All I had to do is decorate it. It came with gummy fruit slices, little red and green Christmas trees, little hollies and berries, Christmas lights, red and green icing, and a huge thing of white icing paste. The bad news is that the white icing thing had a hole in one corner, which made it hard to do a fancy job icing things. Also, no matter how much white icing you put on, things just keep on falling off. I can never get my gingerbread houses to look like the ones on the box. The people who make those must use hot glue or something! Anyways, it was fun to make.

No, I did not eat any of the candy. I'm sure it is edible, but it didn't look particularly appetizing to me!

Updated Vegan Egg Salad Experiment

On a recent cold and blustery day, I decided to re-try my vegan egg salad experiment. Last time it was pretty good, but the texture was a little off. I thought I could make some improvements on it to make it closer to regular egg salad. My improvements were mostly in the area of the tofu.

Last time, I used a combination of silken tofu and firm tofu. I thought the silken tofu might imitate the egg whites and the firm tofu would imitate the egg yolks. This time, I decided to stick with firm tofu only. I also dried it first. To dry it, I layered several paper towels together, put the tofu on top of it, and then pressed down on it with several more layered paper towels.

I also crumbled up the tofu more finely, instead of just cutting it into cubes.

I also did not use any celery this time, pretty much because I just didn't have any. I ate it all a few days ago with some peanut butter!

I added the vegan mayo slowly, stirring it after each spoonful, to make sure I'd get a texture I liked. Then I added my secret ingredient, yellow mustard.

That is really all there is to it! Making vegan egg salad is actually a lot quicker than regular egg salad, because you don't have to boil the eggs, wait for them to cool, peel them, and chop them up.

Here is what the egg salad looked like inside of the sandwich.

You have to admit that looks appetizing!

And here it is as part of this semi-complete lunch.

Favorite Comfort Food: Pasta With Cherry Tomatoes

Hi everyone! Today I just have a quick little post for you, but I wanted to share one of my very favorite, and very easiest, lunch or dinner recipes. This is total comfort food, very inexpensive, and very quick and easy to make. You just need any type of dry pasta, and some cherry tomatoes.

First, boil a pot of water.

Once the water is boiling, add your dry pasta.

Toss all of the cherry tomatoes in there too.

Let it boil for eight to ten minutes, depending on how you like your pasta.

Drain.

Eat.

You can add butter. cheese, sauce, or any other toppings you want. I like to eat it just as it is, Sometimes I add nutritional yeast. No matter how I eat it, this is one of my very favorite things to make for a quick lunch or dinner, especially when it is cold outside and I'm lazy and just want to lounge in front of the TV with something yummy.

Enjoy!

Tostitos Hint of Lime Review

You know when you get in those moods when you need something salty and crunchy? Pirate's Booty has been my go-to snack for those moods, for many years now. But recently I decided to try something new... Tostitos Hint of Lime. And, lets just say that ever since then I've eaten about fifty million of them.

Here is what the bag looks like. Notice that it is already wrinkled up, because I had eaten about half the bag over the past few days, before realizing that I should review them here.

Now we can observe the ingredients and nutritional information. I notice that, for the most part, there is not really anything terribly chemically in here. I had to look up maltodextrin (a flavor carrier made from starch) and dextrose (pretty similar to corn syrup) but I knew what the rest of the ingredients were. It has a lot of calories, but not a lot of fat... although I also noticed that their suggested serving size is 6 chips.

6 chips.

Uh... moving on...

Here is a chip outside of the bag. It looks pretty much like all tortilla chips ever.
When I take a bite, I notice the limeyness right away. Then I notice the saltiness. Then I notice the taste of the chip, which is kind of sweet and corny like the usual tortilla chip. Limey, salty, corny, and crunchy. That's how I would describe these chips.

I do like lime. It is interesting how lime can be added to the flavor of unusual things, and you wouldn't think, "Gross! Lime, what are you doing in there?" Well, you might think it. But if you tried it anyways, you'd probably like it. For instance, remember Lime Coke? When I first heard of it, I thought it would be horrible. But then I tried a different lime flavored cola... it was some sort of local brand in Key West... and it was so good, so I started drinking Lime Coke. And I loved it. They also had Lemon Pepsi, which I did not like, because the smell kept reminding me of Lemon Pinesol. Whatever happened to Lime Coke, anyways? Ah, I digress...

If you can't find Tostitos Hint of Lime at the grocery store, don't forget to check the store brand kind. Winco, one of our grocery stores out here, had "Tortilla Chips With a Hint of Lime" that were just as delicious!
